مصنف هذا الكتاب هو أبو محمد عبد الله بن المقفع الكاتب المشهور بالبلاغة صاحب الرسائل البديعة، وهو من أهل فارس الذين أصابتهم تهمة الزندقة وكثر عليه التشنج فيها بعد موته. أما كتابه "الأدب الصغير والأدب الكبير" فهو كتاب عظيم القيمة وكبير الفائدة، يرمي فيه ابن المقفع بسهم صائب ونظر ثاقب لمجمل حياة الإنسان، في تعاملاته وأخلاقه، أدبه، معاشه، وأفكاره. وهو بعد ذلك يكرّس المعروف، والخلق الحسن، ويعزز طموح الطامحين من ذوي الهمة البعيدة، ويحرض على الاستقامة والورع والحلم في كل جَدَدٍ يسير به المرء، وفي كل كلمة ينطق بها. إنه يعلي من شأن العقل والحكمة، ويعصم أولى الأحلام من الشطط والوقوع في مدخل الرعونة والطيش والهوى. إنه يخاطب العقل بأفكاره السامية مثلما يخاطب القلب بلغته الرفيعة البليغة الرفيقة. أسلوب مسترسل هادئ مثل نسيم البحر لا تكلف فيه ولا زخرفة، ولا يجشعُك المركب الوعر لتصل إلى مرادك، بل يسوق معانيه في قرب مبانيه. لذلك كان الكتاب عظيماً في قيمته، لا سيما إذا زدنا بأنه ألقى بكثير من الضوء على أدب مرحلة مهمة من مراحل أدبنا العربي في إطار النثر والترسل، على آداب كثيرة تبدأ بالدخول على الملوك والولاة وتنتهي بأبسط شؤون الحياة.

Abdullah bin Muqaffa

He is Abdullah bin al-Muqaffa, of Persian origin, and he was born in a village in Persia called (Jor) whose name was Rozbah por Dadawayh (Rouzbah bin Dadawiyeh), and his nickname was “Aba Amr”. So he hit him on his hands until they swelled up (i.e. their fingers swollen and crooked and then paralyzed). He is a Persian Zoroastrian thinker who converted to Islam, and lived through both the Umayyad and Abbasid Caliphates. He studied Persian and learned Arabic in the books of writers and participated in the Marbad market. Transfer from Pahlavi to Arabic Kalila and Dimna. He has in the transmitted books small literature and great literature in which there is talk about the Sultan and his relationship with the subjects and the relationship of the subjects with him, and small literature about cultivating the soul and taming it with good deeds. Some of Ibn al-Muqaffa's books were translated from Persian, Greek and Hindi. Among his books: - The precious pearl and the hidden jewel. - Muzdak. - Barry Terminias. Ayin Namah - In the customs of the Persians. - The Crown - in the biography of Anu Sherwan. Isagoge - Entrance. - Millia Sami and Weshtati Hossam and Omrani Nofal - Small Literature. It was published by "Taher Al-Jazaery", then it was published with the investigation of "Ahmed Zaki Pasha" in 1911 AD, and it was recently published with the investigation by "Wael Hafez Khalaf" in 2011 AD.
