Book Description

In "Hell Bent" by Leigh Bardugo, the second book in the "Alex Stern" series, Alex is back and determined to break Darlington out of purgatory, even if it costs her everything. As she embarks on this dangerous mission, Alex and Dawes assemble a team of dubious allies to help them save the gentleman of Lethe.

But they can’t call on the Ninth House for help, and so they must navigate a maze of arcane texts and bizarre artifacts to uncover the society's most closely guarded secrets, breaking every rule along the way. As they delve deeper, however, faculty members begin to die off, and Alex realizes that something deadly is at work in New Haven.

To survive, Alex must face the monsters of her past and confront the darkness that is built into the university's very walls. Bardugo's signature twists are present throughout the book, with a world packed with magic, violence, and all-too-real monsters.

Thick with history and brimming with action, "Hell Bent" is a thrilling addition to the series that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. The characters are well-developed, and the world-building is impeccable, drawing readers into the intricate and dangerous world of the Ninth House.

The novel also delves into deeper themes, including power dynamics, trauma, and the consequences of actions, making it a thought-provoking read. Overall, "Hell Bent" is a captivating continuation of the "Alex Stern" series, cementing Bardugo's status as a master of dark fantasy.
