Book Description
Abu Firas Al-Hamdani
Abu Firas Al-Hamdani: He is a poet, military commander and emir of the Hamdanid state, a contemporary of Al-Mutanabbi and competed with him at the court of Saif Al-Dawla.
Abu Firas Al-Harith bin Hamdoun Al-Hamdani was born in Manbij, Syria in 321 AH/933 AD, and it was said in Mosul, in northern Iraq, that he was an orphan when he was three years old. in battles.
Abu Firas al-Hamdani was one of the most important councils of “Saif al-Dawla” in his private council, to which poets were invited, and he was generous with giving him until he gave him a farm in Manbij, in addition to taking over it at the age of sixteen.
Abu Firas composed all the colors of poetry, in which he included flirtation, pride, lamentation, description and wisdom, and the greatest of them was the “Al-Rumiyat” that he composed while he was in captivity, in which he brought out his deep feelings and truest words.
"Abu Firas Al-Hamdani" maintained the practice of hunting and holding poetry and literature councils, and he had many victories over the Roman army, and he was captured several times, in which "Saif Al-Dawla" ransacked him, the last of which was while he was returning from a hunting trip, he was wounded and captured, and he wrote to "Saif Al-Dawla" More than once, “Saif al-Dawla” dried up due to the denunciation of some of those close to him, so the captivity was prolonged for four years, so he sent him his famous poem: “I see you with tears, your sign of patience.” This period of captivity had a great impact on refining the talent of “Abu Firas” and refining his conscience, which He brought out for us “Al-Rumiyat” (after the name of the prison).
After his release from captivity, he took over Homs until the death of “Saif al-Dawla” in 356 AH. /968 AD.
