Book Description
In a land of intrigue and ambition, the call echoes through the halls of power. Five noble houses are summoned to partake in the Trial for the coveted dragon throne. This is no ordinary competition, and those who answer the call are anything but ordinary. Among them are a liar, a soldier, a servant, a thief, and a murderer. But who will emerge victorious in this high-stakes contest?
Traditionally, the chosen one for the Trial has always been the eldest child of each royal house, meticulously groomed for years in preparation for this very moment. However, this year defies tradition. This year, the call extends to five individuals who, for one reason or another, stand as outcasts within their own houses. They are:
The Liar, Emilia: She bears the weight of dark magic, a secret she must protect at all costs, for discovery would mean certain death.
The Soldier, Lucian: Once a fierce warrior, he has vowed never to wield a sword again, but the call may force him to confront his past.
The Servant, Vespir: Her mastery as a dragon trainer is her ticket to the Trial, and her skills alone will keep her in the game.
The Thief, Ajax: Knowing that nothing comes without a price, he lives by the creed of taking what he desires.
The Murderer, Hyperia: Born to rule, she harbors an unquenchable thirst for power and will stop at nothing to claim her rightful place on the throne.
As the competition unfolds, secrets will surface, alliances will be forged and shattered, and the very essence of each competitor will be put to the test. Who will emerge as the ultimate victor in this gripping battle for supremacy?
Jessica Cluess
Jessica Cluess wears many hats in her life's narrative. A proud graduate of Northwestern University, she proudly flaunts her unabashed nerdiness. Her journey led her to the bustling city of Los Angeles, where she not only brewed coffee for the elite but also embarked on her maiden novel-writing adventure. Beyond the realms of literature, she dons the role of an instructor at Writopia Lab, igniting the storytelling passions of children and adolescents.
For Jessica, daylight is a rarity, as she often finds herself ensconced in dimly lit rooms, fervently crafting stories and, occasionally, hissing at the ever-present sun. Los Angeles, with its abundance of sunshine, seems like the ideal city for such a pastime.
During her childhood, Jessica dabbled in skateboarding, but her list of noteworthy achievements in that department remains succinct. High school saw her shunning the cool crowd, opting instead for the intellectually stimulating atmosphere of Advanced Placement classes. College finally offered her a sense of belonging, as she found a like-minded tribe who reveled in Eddie Izzard's stand-up concert, 'Dressed To Kill.'
Post-graduation, Jessica's professional journey took her through a series of eclectic odd jobs. She graced Texas stages as Cinderella, moderated a radio news site, and even served coffee to the renowned Orson Scott Card. Somewhere along this unconventional path, there might have been a stint with a secretive agency like the NSA, but details remain hazy from that sketchy time.
Throughout these tumultuous years, Jessica Cluess penned numerous literary endeavors, with the early ones leaning toward the not-so-great side. However, her dedication and collaboration with friends gradually yielded pieces of work that could be considered more than just 'okay.' With hope in her heart and a passion for storytelling that refuses to wane, Jessica continues to pursue her writing journey, one chapter at a time.
