Book Description
In a world of magic, danger, and secrets, Henrietta is faced with a daunting choice. The magicians want her to lead, the sorcerers want her to deceive, and the demons thirst for her blood. But above all, Henrietta wants to save the one she loves. However, his dark magic could be her downfall.
Henrietta arrived in London with the hope of being hailed as the chosen one—the first female sorcerer in centuries destined to vanquish the bloodthirsty Ancients. Instead, she found herself entangled in a web of city-wide secrets. The most significant secret of all? Henrietta is not the chosen one.
Despite this revelation, she must continue to play the role assigned to her to protect herself and Rook, her childhood friend and true love. But can she truly save him? The poison coursing through Rook's veins is transforming him into something monstrous, granting him dark powers he struggles to control.
Determined to shift the balance of the war, Henrietta stumbles upon a clue from the Ancients' past. This discovery leads her to enlist the help of Blackwood, the enigmatic Earl of Sorrow-Fell, on a journey up the coast in search of potent new weapons. Alongside them is Magnus, a daring and charming companion eager to win Henrietta's favor once more.
Together, this unlikely trio will confront terrifying monsters, forge alliances with powerful beings, and unearth the most potent weapon of all: the truth.
Jessica Cluess' "A Poison Dark and Drowning" immerses readers in a world where destiny, deceit, and determination collide. Join Henrietta as she navigates a perilous path filled with challenges, magic, and the ultimate quest for truth.
Jessica Cluess
Jessica Cluess wears many hats in her life's narrative. A proud graduate of Northwestern University, she proudly flaunts her unabashed nerdiness. Her journey led her to the bustling city of Los Angeles, where she not only brewed coffee for the elite but also embarked on her maiden novel-writing adventure. Beyond the realms of literature, she dons the role of an instructor at Writopia Lab, igniting the storytelling passions of children and adolescents.
For Jessica, daylight is a rarity, as she often finds herself ensconced in dimly lit rooms, fervently crafting stories and, occasionally, hissing at the ever-present sun. Los Angeles, with its abundance of sunshine, seems like the ideal city for such a pastime.
During her childhood, Jessica dabbled in skateboarding, but her list of noteworthy achievements in that department remains succinct. High school saw her shunning the cool crowd, opting instead for the intellectually stimulating atmosphere of Advanced Placement classes. College finally offered her a sense of belonging, as she found a like-minded tribe who reveled in Eddie Izzard's stand-up concert, 'Dressed To Kill.'
Post-graduation, Jessica's professional journey took her through a series of eclectic odd jobs. She graced Texas stages as Cinderella, moderated a radio news site, and even served coffee to the renowned Orson Scott Card. Somewhere along this unconventional path, there might have been a stint with a secretive agency like the NSA, but details remain hazy from that sketchy time.
Throughout these tumultuous years, Jessica Cluess penned numerous literary endeavors, with the early ones leaning toward the not-so-great side. However, her dedication and collaboration with friends gradually yielded pieces of work that could be considered more than just 'okay.' With hope in her heart and a passion for storytelling that refuses to wane, Jessica continues to pursue her writing journey, one chapter at a time.

People do what they think is right, but that does not make it good.
Despite everything - your lies, your wounds, I cannot help but love you. I'm helpless against it.
When I had your friendship, I thought I could never want for anything more. But over time, I have come to feel for you beyond anything I thought I could.
