Book Description
Hassouna Al Misbahi
Hassouna Al-Misbahi is a Tunisian writer and novelist, born in the village of Al-Dhibat in the Kairouan countryside in 1950. He studied French literature at the University of Tunis. After spending more than twenty years in the German city of Munich, he returned to his country of Tunisia, where he now lives and works in the city of Hammamet.
His works have been translated into German, and "Splatter's Hallucinations" won the 2000 Toucan Prize for Best Book in Munich. His story "The Turtle", published by Banipal magazine in English, was shortlisted for the Kane Prize for African Literature.
Hassouna Al-Misbahi has translated dozens of books from French into Arabic, including “Voices of Marrakesh” by Elias Canetti, “Stories for Children” by Jacques Pervier, “Love is Eternal Innocence” and selections of international poetry.
The late Egyptian writer Youssef Idris described the stories of Hassuna Al-Misbahi, saying: “It is enough to read one story by Hassouna Al-Misbahi to know how the Tunisian man lives, how he thinks, and what his stories and legends are, as if you lived in Tunisia for decades.”
