Taha Baqir (1912 - February 28, 1984) was an archaeologist, born in Iraq in the Babylon Governorate, the city of Hilla. He completed his intermediate studies and was one of the first students, so he moved to complete his studies at the expense of the Ministry of Education to the United States to study archeology at the Oriental Institute at the University of Chicago with his colleague Fouad Safar after they obtained an English Matriculation certificate in the Palestinian city of Safed. To the American University in Beirut to pass the Sophomore stage, which is a preparatory study stage. After that stage, he traveled to the United States of America to complete his studies in archeology. After a period of four years, he obtained a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, and he returned in 1938. He received the title of professor from the University of Baghdad in 1959. Since 1980, his health deteriorated, and he traveled to Britain for treatment, but he died after returning home, and that was on February 28, 1984. The Union of Arab Archaeologists in Cairo awarded him the Shield of the Union in 2002 AD for his great services in the field of antiquities
