Arthur Conan Doyle: British physician and novelist, born in 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and began writing during his studies, where his first stories were published before he was twenty. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle is best known for his novels about Detective Sherlock Holmes, which are among the best known in crime literature. His writings varied between science fiction, plays, romantic writings, poetry, realistic literature, historical novels and satirical writings.
