One of the most important scholars of language and literature of his time, and a Lebanese-Syrian poet, he revised the translation of the Bible, and he has several important books in linguistics. Ibrahim bin Nassif bin Abdullah bin Nassif bin Jumblatt was born in Beirut in 1847 AD, and his origin goes back to Homs before his grandfather emigrated to Lebanon. His upbringing was in a house concerned with culture and literature; His father is the famous poet Nassif al-Yazji, who taught him the Arabic language before relying on himself to acquire knowledge and to delve into linguistic sciences such as grammar, morphology, rhetoric and Islamic sciences, especially Hanafi jurisprudence, and he has shown brilliance since his youth in poetry systems. He was commissioned to edit the newspaper “Al-Najah” in 1872 AD, as the Jesuit fathers resorted to in translating the Bible, relying on his linguistic ability to accurately select Arabic words synonymous with the Syriac language. He also worked as a teacher of Arabic language and literature at the Roman Catholic Patriarchate School in Beirut. In 1844, he issued the magazine “Al-Tabib” in cooperation with the two doctors, “Bishara Zelzal” and “Khalil Saadeh.” He alone issued “Al-Diya’” magazine in 1898 AD, which was known for its great interest in eloquence of the phrase and the durability of style, and it continued to be issued for eight years. Ibrahim Yazigi was known for his inclination for freedom, literary boldness, love of innovation and the realization of reason, which prompted him to travel to Egypt at a time when the climate of freedom in Lebanon was not sufficiently available. He was also interested in reviving Arab nationalism, and his reputation became so popular that the King of “Norway” awarded him the Order of Sciences and Arts, and obtained membership in the “Astronomical Society” in Paris, and his contemporaries described him as the greatest linguist in the present era. He left several books, including: “Naj’at al-Ra’id and Sharia’a al-Ward fi Synonym and Teleportation” and a poetry collection called “Al-Aqd.” He also revised and shortened a number of books, including the book: “Al-Urf al-Tayyib fi Sharh Diwan Abi al-Tayyib” which is for his father, and “The History of Babylon and Assyria.” For “Jamil Nakhlat Al Mudawar”. Ibrahim Al Yazigi died in Cairo in 1906 AD after a struggle with illness, and his remains were transferred to the Roman Catholic cemetery in Beirut.
