«وتسألني لمن أسوقُ هذا الحديث وكأنك لا تدري؛ فإني إنما أسوقه إلى أبنائنا المُتلهِّفين إلى الشُّهرة دونَ أن يُعمِلوا في يدهم القلمَ الذي يُرغِم الشُّهرةَ أن تسعى إليهم. ماذا قرأ الشُّبَّان حتى يكتبوا؟ إن الكتابة لا يُمكِن أن تبدأ إلا بعد قراءةٍ طويلة مُتأنِّية ودراسةٍ وتذوُّقٍ حتى يذوبَ الأديب في الأدب، ويصبح جزءًا منه لا يَتصوَّر الحياة بغيره.»

في «قراءات ومشاهدات» يُقدِّم لنا الأديب الكبير «ثروت أباظة» باقةً من ورودِه، فيما يزيد عن العشرين مقالًا بين الأدب والنقد والقصة والرواية والشِّعر والسياسة، عبرَ كُتبٍ قرأها فينقدها ويُمحِّصها تمحيصًا فيُعلن إعجابَه ببعضها تارةً، ويهجم على بعضها الآخَر تارةً؛ وعبرَ مسلسلاتٍ وأفلام شاهَدها فيمدح حُسن صُنعِ بعضها وسَبك حواراتها، أو يذمُّ تفاهةَ أخرى وسعيَها وراء الربح لا غير. وينتقل من أهمية الأدب للبشر إلى نقد الروايات، إلى السياسة، إلى التاريخ، ويُكثِر من الدفاع عن العربية وأهلها وأدبها وشِعرها ونظامها، ويمدح «شكسبير» ويهاجم الشيوعيةَ والشيوعيين المُلحِدين، وغير ذلك كثير.

Tharwat Abaza

A great Egyptian writer and novelist, he is a prominent figure in the Sharkia Governorate and has many contributions to literature. He is from the Abaza family, one of the oldest families in Egypt. It is a literary family that presented giants of Arabic literature, headed by his father, the writer Desouki Abaza, his uncle, the poet Aziz Abaza, and his uncle, the great writer Fikri Abaza. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws from Fouad I University in 1950, and began his working life as a lawyer. He began his literary life at the age of sixteen, which is an early start, and turned to writing short stories and radio dramas, and his name began to be repeated on the radio. He was editor-in-chief of the Radio and Television Magazine in 1974, and headed the literary section of Al-Ahram newspaper between 1975 and 1988 and continued to write in the same newspaper until his death. He also served as president of the Writers' Union. He held the position of Under-Secretary of the Shura Council, as well as a member of the Supreme Council for Culture, the Specialized National Councils, the Board of Trustees of the Radio and Television Union, an honorary president of the Modern Literature Association, and a member of the International PEN Club. Tharwat Abaza wrote several stories and novels, a number of which were turned into films and television series. He also wrote more than forty radio plays, forty short stories and twenty-seven long novels. He also received several awards, including the State Encouragement Award in 1958, the Medal of Science and Arts of the first class, and the State Appreciation Award in Literature in 1982. On March 17, 2003, he died after a long struggle with illness due to a malignant tumor in the stomach.
