يسجِّل هذا الكِتاب لرحلة من رحلات العرب إلى «روسيا» في أوائل القرن العشرين، والتي جاءت في إطار شدِّ الرحال إلى بلاد بعيدة يميُّزها عن غيرها معالم طبيعية وحضارية فارقة. والمؤلِّف وقد امتلك القدرة على حُسْن الوصف وسلاسة التعبير، يصطحب القارئ معه في رحلته منذ حصوله على تأشيرة الدخول لروسيا، وحتى انطلاقه مبْحرًا من الإسكندرية، وصولًا إلى «أودسا» أولى المدن الروسية التي وطِئها، بَعْد إبحارٍ طويلٍ استغْرَقَ عدة أيام، وما إن رَسَت السفين التي أقَلَّتْهُ، حتى تصاعَدَ إيقاع المغامرة، وأَخَذَ «رشاد بك» يسيح متفقِّدًا المدينة تلو المدينة، والمَعلم تلو المَعلم، راصدًا أحوال السكان ومعاشاتهم، فضلًا عن علومهم وفنونهم، ويختم تدوينه الرحلة بإيراد معلوماتٍ ضافيةً جغرافيةً وسكانيةً عن روسيا، ليتمِّمَ كتابه كسِفرٍ تاريخيٍّ أدبيٍّ يُرِينا صورة حية لتلك البلاد آنذاك، بعيون عربية.

Mahmoud Rashad Bey

Rashad Bey: He is an Egyptian writer and traveler. He held high judicial positions at the beginning of the twentieth century. However, his passion for travel and the literary and artistic exploration of different countries took him from the world of prestige and position to the world of travel and travel writing. Mahmoud Rashad bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah Al-Najjar, better known as Rashad Bey, was born in 1854 AD in Alexandria. He is the older brother of Ahmed Zaki Pasha, known as the “Sheikh of Arabism”. He received his primary education in his hometown and then in Banha, and then joined the Infantry School in Cairo, to join the ranks of the Egyptian army officers, but it happened that necessitated his leaving the military, and entering the “acquaintances” as an inspector. His strong personal and literary traits made him trustworthy; The Egyptian government sent him, along with two others, to represent it at the International Conference of Orientalists in Vienna, and when civil courts were opened in Egypt, he was one of its first members. His judicial biography was considered an example of integrity and premiums, so he proceeded to rise in the judicial corps, until he was appointed head of the court of Egypt, but when he reached the height of his glory, he decided to retire from positions, and roamed the land east and west, so he visited Palestine, the Levant and Turkey, as well as France, Hungary, Romania, Sweden and Norway, and published Chapters from his travels in Al-Moayad newspaper. Rashad Bey has written many books, including: "Geographical Lessons", "Treasures of Gold in Education and Literature", "Research in Dar Luqman", "Al-Marsilayat", and "Journey to Russia". He has also published many articles in newspapers and magazines. He died in Cairo in 1925 AD.
