The novelist Hadiya Hussein was born in Baghdad into a poor family living in a popular neighborhood that she still considers the first treasure of her writings. At Najib Pasha Elementary School, she learned the first letters, and insisted that she excel over her peers to break the barrier of class differences between her and them. She excelled and invaded areas and worlds that were difficult for women to enter. The novelist Hadiya Hussein was unable to complete her university studies due to the difficult living conditions that her family was suffering from, which prompted her to join Radio Baghdad in 1973, where she worked for more than 17 years on the Baghdad radios, the Voice of the Masses, and the radio directed to Europe. She also worked in The Iraqi press, and participated in many cultural activities in Baghdad, Amman and Cairo.
