تُعَدُّ هذه أوَّلَ قصةٍ في أدبِ القصصِ البوليسيِّة الحَديث، وتُقدِّمُ لنا لأولِ مرةٍ شخصيةَ الفارسِ الفرنسيِّ «سي أوجست دوبان» التي أصبحَتْ لاحقًا الأساسَ الذي قامَتْ عليه شخصياتٌ أُخرى شَهِيرة، كشَخصيةِ المُحقِّقِ «شيرلوك هولمز» التي قدَّمَها «آرثر كونان دويل». يُقابِلُ الراوِي المجهولُ الفارسَ «دوبان» في باريس، ويُحاوِلانِ معًا حلَّ لغزِ جريمةِ قتلٍ مُزدوَجةٍ مُروِّعةٍ وقعتْ في شارعِ «مورج» وراحَ ضحيتَها سيدةٌ وابنتُها. وُجِدتْ جثةُ السيدةِ مُلْقاةً في الباحةِ الخلفيةِ لمَنزلِها وقد قُطِعَ رأْسُها وتحطَّمَتْ عِظامُها، بينَما وُجِدتْ جثةُ الفتاةِ محشورةً رأسًا على عَقِبٍ في مدخنةِ المَنزل. يَسْتجوبُ «دوبان» عددًا مِنَ الشُّهود، ويَزورُ مَسرحَ الجريمةِ ليَجِدَ دليلًا يَجعلُه يظنُّ أنَّ القاتلَ غيرُ آدمي، ويُحاوِلُ بذكائِه الشديدِ وخيالِه المُبدعِ كشْفَ هُوِيَّتَه. فهل يُمكِنُ حقًّا أنْ يكونَ القاتلُ غيرَ آدمي؟ وهل سيَنجحُ «دوبان» في حلِّ هذِهِ القضيةِ العَجِيبة؟ اقْرأ القِصةَ واستمتعْ بالأحداثِ المُثِيرة.
