إن اهتمام مركز نيكسون للبحوث بالتصوف إنما هو امتداد للاهتمام الغربي عموما ومراكز البحوث والدراسات والأقسام العلمية بالعالم الإسلامي. ويأتي ضمن هذا الاهتمام عقدتما مركز نيكسون للبحوث لتقديم النصح والمشورة للإدارة الأمريكية في فهم التصوف وتفعيل دوره في السياسة الخارجية الأمريكية. لقد شارك في الندوة عدد من الباحثين الغربيين المتخصصين في الإسلام وفي التصوف بصفة خاصة كما شارك بعض العلماء لمسلمين ومنهم رشيد قباني أحد المنتمين للطريقة.

Mazen bin Salah Hamed Mutabaqani. Born on Jumada Al-Thani 3, 1369 AH (March 22, 1950 AD). In the city of Karak in Jordan. Associate Professor, Department of Islamic Culture, College of Education - King Saud University, Riyadh. Head of the Western World Studies Unit at the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Western World Studies.
