Book Description

Author portrait of Rasheed Al-Daif

Rasheed Al-Daif

Rachid Al-Daif is a Lebanese novelist, poet and academic, born in 1945 in Zgharta - North Lebanon. His works have been translated into several international languages, especially his novels "The Parasitism of Meryl Streep", "The German Comes to his senses", "Ok bye", "Learning English", and others. The "Lebanese Cultural Forum" in Paris awarded him the "Creativity Award" because he "observes the transformations" of his country's society in his works.
Rashid began his creative writings with poetry in the year 1979, and soon moved to the world of narration in 1983. He returned to poetry in the year 1993 through his book "Any Snow Falls in Peace", but his fame and his mark in the world of literature were in writing the novel, and he was published More than seventeen novels, compared to three collections of poetry, and a collection of short stories with children's characters. His works have been translated into about a dozen languages. In an interview with him, Rashid believes that everything that is written is found for all people to read. Our societies practice a lot of hypocrisy, and it is the writer's duty to illuminate what he sees and watches, which may upset some. In the end, the goal when breaking taboos or crossing red lines is not excitement. “I don't write scenes that call for excitement. Because these matters come in my texts because they have their function, and without mentioning them, the novel cannot be complete. There is no literature in the world that does not have scenes of this kind.”
