Book Description

Author portrait of Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi

Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi

Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi: A mystic philosopher and a brilliant writer, and he is considered one of the great figures of the fourth century AH. He is “Ali ibn Muhammad ibn al-Abbas al-Tawhidi,” his nickname is “Abu Hayyan,” and he differed in his attribution to monotheism. and unification. He was born in the year 310 AH in the city of Shiraz (Nissapur) and he lived most of his life in Baghdad, and his childhood was difficult; He is from a poor family that lived in deprivation and hardship of life, and when he became an orphan due to the death of his father and his move to the sponsorship of his uncle, he did not find the hoped-for care. He found his refuge among the books, where he worked in the paper industry, and became a polymath. He tried to contact Ibn al-Amid, al-Sahib Ibn Abbad and al-Wazir al-Muhallabi, but he would return every time with disappointed hopes. Except what was copied before that. Through his books, Abu Hayyan al-Tawhidi appears to be an educated person with a variety of sources, with wide knowledge, awareness of the cultural movement and contact with some of its symbols in his time. And "friendship and friend", "Al-Muqabat", "Al-Huwail and Al-Shamal", and "Divine Signs". Abu Hayyan is considered one of the controversial figures so far. People are still in it between praising and demeaning, and perhaps the contrast of those attitudes is due in one part to the personality of the man, and in another aspect to the views and attitudes attributed to him or adopted by him, and he is the most famous of those who praised him and testified to him for the righteousness of religion and piety. Yaqoot al-Hamawi, and those who slandered him and accused him of misguidance, atheism and heresy were al-Hafiz al-Dhahabi, Ibn al-Jawzi and Ibn Hajar al-Asqalani. And his death was in Shiraz in the year 414 AH, according to the most likely sayings, after escaping from a death threat from “Al-Wazir Al-Muhallabi” after a snub from his opponents, and after he had enriched the Arabic library with masterpieces of books.
