يضم هذا الكتاب طائفةً من الأمثال الشعبية العامية التي تجسد إرثًا مهمًّا في ميدان الأدب الشعبي، وقد جمع أحمد تيمور هذه الأمثال وَرَتَّبَها وفقًا للأبجدية العربية، وكتابه هذا أشبه بقاموس يُعينُ على فهم مفردات الحياة الاجتماعية عند البسطاء الذين كانوا سببًا في نشأة هذا النوع من الأمثال، ويُحْمَدُ للكاتب في هذا المُؤَلَّف ذِكْرُه للمناسبة التي كانت أشبه بلحظة التنوير في خَلْقِ المثل؛ وذلك نظرًا لأهميتها في الكشف عن البواعث الاجتماعية التي انتقلت بالمثل من خصوصية الحال عند صاحبه إلى عمومية التداول بين كافة أطياف المجتمع على اختلاف طبقاتهم وأعراقهم. وإنه لمن الإنصاف لهذا الكتاب أن نَصِفَه بأنه سجل المثل السائر عَبْرَ الزمان المُنْصَرِمِ العابر.

Ahmed Taymour Pasha

One of the great men of the Arab Renaissance, and a researcher in the fields of language, literature and history. He is considered the owner of the largest private library in the modern era. Where the number of books in it amounted to eighteen thousand books, and he is the father of each of the two genius writers: Mahmoud Taymour and Muhammad Taymour, and he is the brother of the stubborn one. One of the pioneers of the feminist movement in the nineteenth century in the Arab world.
Ahmed Ismail Muhammad Taymour was born in 1871 AD, his father died when he was an infant, and his older sister Aisha al-Taymouriyyah and her husband Muhammad Tawfiq took care of him. Timur studied at the French school of Marcel for a few years, then dropped out of regular studies and received his education at home; He learned Persian and Turkish, and the young man had, by the age of twenty, built a personal library of eight thousand volumes, half of which were a manuscript.
