Book Description

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing interdisciplinary field with a long and distinguished history that includes many countries and dates back largely to before the development of computers. It can be traced back at least to ancient Greece and has evolved over time into a major sub-field of computer science in general. This modern questionnaire not only serves as a “position paper” in the field from the point of view of the expert members of the 12 IFIP Technical Committee and its working groups and their colleagues, but also provides overviews of current work in various countries. Chapters describe important relatively new or emerging areas of work in which the authors are personally involved, including text classification and hypertext; Autonomous Systems; Emotional Intelligence; Artificial Intelligence in eHealthcare Systems; Artifact-mediated society and social intelligence design; multilingual knowledge management; clients, intelligence and tools; intelligent user profiling; and business intelligence in the supply chain. It provides an interesting international perspective on where this important field is heading at the end of the 2000s.
