Book Description
The Legacy by Elle Kennedy is a contemporary sports romance novel and the fifth book in the Off-Campus series. It was first published in 2021, with the original English edition listed under EKI/Elle Kennedy Inc. The book is best understood as a sequel-companion to the earlier Off-Campus novels, because it returns to the four central couples—Garrett and Hannah, Logan and Grace, Dean and Allie, and Tucker and Sabrina—after college. Rather than focusing on one romance from beginning to end, it is made up of four connected novellas that show what happens after the “happy ending.” Its main concern is adulthood: careers, marriage, distance, parenthood, trauma, and the practical work of keeping love alive.
The novel begins with Logan and Grace. Logan is now a professional hockey player, while Grace is finishing her final year at Briar University. Their love is still strong, but their schedules leave them feeling disconnected. Logan tries to fix this by planning a romantic New Year’s trip, but the couple gets caught in a snowstorm and stranded in their car. The crisis forces them to speak honestly about their future. They make a pact to keep choosing each other, and, in a spontaneous romantic turn, they elope.
The next major storyline follows Dean and Allie. Dean wants to propose, but he is warned not to do it at Tucker and Sabrina’s wedding. Allie, focused on her acting career and uneasy about rushing into marriage, initially rejects the idea of engagement. This hurts Dean, who sees the proposal as a sign of commitment rather than an immediate demand for marriage. After reflecting on his feelings and her own fears, Allie realizes she has misunderstood what he needs. She tracks him down and proposes to him herself, repairing the conflict between them.
Tucker and Sabrina’s section takes place after their wedding, during a chaotic honeymoon in St. Barth’s. What should be a romantic escape becomes a string of disasters, including travel problems, injuries, and comic interruptions. Beneath the humor, however, the couple faces serious questions about work, ambition, parenting, and whether their lives still fit together. Tucker admits he is dissatisfied with his current career, while Sabrina struggles over her future in law. By the end, they communicate more honestly and consider a move to New York for better opportunities.
The final storyline centers on Garrett and Hannah. Hannah is secretly pregnant and frightened about raising a child while Garrett’s hockey career keeps him away. Garrett, meanwhile, is forced to confront his abusive father and the public image built around their relationship. After a painful argument, Garrett and Hannah reconcile, and Garrett chooses to expose the truth about his father. The epilogue reveals that Hannah is carrying twins, ending the novel with a sense of fear, joy, and new beginnings for the whole group.
