O Jogador de xadrez de Maelzel (1836) é um ensaio de Edgar Allan Poe, que analisa um jogador de xadrez automatizado fraudulento chamado O Turco, que se tornou famoso na Europa e nos Estados Unidos, locais que visitou amplamente. O autômato falso foi inventado por Wolfgang von Kempelen em 1769 e foi trazido para os EUA em 1825 por Johann Nepomuk Maelzel após a morte de von Kempelen.
O ensaio de Poe foi originalmente publicado na edição de abril de 1836 do Southern Literary Messenger .
A resposta no momento da sua publicação foi forte.
