Book Description
I'm Glad My Mom Died is a powerful and emotionally raw memoir by Jennette McCurdy, a former child star best known for her role as Sam Puckett on Nickelodeon's iCarly and Sam & Cat. Published in 2022, this bestselling book offers an unfiltered look at McCurdy’s life growing up in the spotlight—and the deeply complex, often painful relationship she had with her mother.
In this brutally honest memoir, Jennette McCurdy recounts the years of emotional manipulation, abuse, and control she experienced at the hands of her mother, who pushed her into acting at a young age. With dark humor and striking vulnerability, McCurdy shares how she was taught to prioritize her mother’s dreams over her own well-being, leading to struggles with anxiety, eating disorders, addiction, and identity.
Told through a series of compelling, sharply written vignettes, I'm Glad My Mom Died captures the highs and lows of child stardom, toxic family dynamics, and the long, difficult journey toward healing and self-discovery. As the title suggests, the memoir confronts taboo themes of grief and liberation with boldness and emotional complexity.
The book resonated with readers worldwide, becoming a #1 New York Times Bestseller and earning widespread acclaim for its courage, humor, and authenticity. McCurdy’s voice is both heartbreaking and empowering, offering insight into the pressures of fame and the importance of reclaiming one’s narrative.
