Book Description

Mick Jagger was right. You can't always get what you want. Katherine Wheeler is finding that out the hard way, after spending six months in Los Angeles with little to show for her efforts besides a rapidly dwindling bank account. So when an online ad offers the sort of position she can only dream of, she answers it at once.Katherine Wheeler knows the $167 plus change in her bank account isn't about to pay the rent, so she takes a gamble and answers an online ad for a job that sounds too good to be true. She figures she can always quit if it turns out to be more than she bargained for. Alarm bells go off when she realizes her new boss is dangerously attractive, but Katherine figures she can handle the situation. Pieter Van Rijn appears to be a consummate professional. What could possibly go wrong? After managing the lovestruck son of a movie producer, a threatened lawsuit, and even an earthquake, Katherine thinks she can handle just about anything except wanting a man who doesn't seem to want her back…

Author portrait of Christine Pope

Christine Pope

A native of Southern California, Christine Pope has been writing stories ever since she commandeered her family's Smith-Corona typewriter back in the sixth grade. Many reams of dead trees later, her debut novel, Fringe Benefits, was published by Pink Petal Books on April 8, 2010. Her short fiction has appeared in Astonishing Adventures, Luna Station Quarterly, and the new journal of dark fiction, Dark Valentine.
While Fringe Benefits is a straight contemporary romance, she writes in a variety of genres, including paranormal romance, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and historical romance. She blames this on being easily distracted by bright, shiny objects, which could also account for the size of her shoe collection.
After spending many years in the magazine publishing industry, she now works as a freelance editor in addition to writing fiction. She lives with her husband and an explosively fluffy Pomeranian mix. Her house is pink, but don't hold that against her.
