Book Description
Deadlocked by Charlaine Harris is the twelfth novel in the internationally popular Sookie Stackhouse series, a blend of urban fantasy, mystery, and supernatural romance that inspired HBO’s True Blood. In this suspenseful installment, Harris deepens the emotional stakes while delivering a tightly woven murder mystery set in a world where vampires, humans, and other supernatural beings uneasily coexist.
Sookie Stackhouse has lived her entire life with the burden of telepathy, a gift that has often felt more like a curse. Now an adult, she has learned that some truths are far more painful to witness than to hear—especially when they involve Eric Northman, the powerful vampire sheriff and her complicated lover. When Sookie sees Eric feeding on another woman, her personal turmoil quickly escalates into something far more dangerous.
The situation takes a dark turn when a young woman’s body is discovered in Eric’s front yard, at the worst possible moment. Felipe de Castro, the ruthless vampire king of Louisiana, Arkansas, and Nevada, is visiting the area, placing everyone under intense scrutiny. With political tensions rising in the vampire hierarchy, even a single human death can have deadly consequences.
Tasked with uncovering the truth, Sookie teams up with Bill Compton, now the official Area Five investigator. What begins as a seemingly straightforward murder investigation soon reveals layers of deception, betrayal, and long-standing grudges. Although Sookie believes the victim’s death has nothing to do with her, she soon realizes she is deeply mistaken. A hidden enemy is manipulating events from the shadows, determined to dismantle Sookie’s life piece by piece.
