Qusay Sheikh Askar (1951) is an Iraqi-Danish poet and novelist. He was born in Nahr Jasim in Basra. He graduated from the University of Basra with a degree in Arabic literature in 1973. He received a master's degree in Arabic literature from Damascus University in 1986 and studied English at the Copenhagen Institute for five years and Danish in Denmark for three years. He has published several collections of poetry, novels and studies. Qusai Sheikh Askar was born in Nahr Jasim in Basra. He went through the stages of education in Iraq until he obtained a BA in Arabic literature from Basra University in 1973, and a MA in Arabic literature from Damascus University with distinction in 1986, then he studied English at the Cambridge Institute in Copenhagen for five years, and the Danish language in schools in Denmark for three years. He held Iraqi citizenship and, since his stay in Denmark, has held Danish citizenship. In the field of education, he lectured at Damascus University and gave lectures on modern literature at the Orientalist Institute in Copenhagen and taught in secondary schools in Iraq, Morocco and Libya. In the media, he worked as a reporter for the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, as well as a broadcaster and presenter on Danish television, the Arabic section. He founded the Arab Writers Union in Scandinavia and was chosen to head the union.
