Edward Morcos is a Syrian writer who has mastered writing poetry and prose and researching Arabic philology and literature. He is also a translator and journalist who has edited for major newspapers and magazines in Syria, Egypt and Lebanon. Edouard Nicolas Morcos was born in 1878 AD in the city of Latakia in western Syria. He worked as a teacher until the date of his retirement in 1940 AD, sometimes in Egypt and sometimes in his town or the “Kifteen” school near Tripoli. In 1902, when he emigrated to Egypt, he combined his teaching work with editing in the newspapers: Al-Jawa’ib, Al-Ahram, Al-Zahir, Al-Mahrousa, Al-Basir and Al-Muqattam. Then he returned to Lattakia in 1909 and began writing to the Egyptian magazines in which he worked. He also worked as a teacher at the “Al-Farir” School. He issued the weekly newspaper “Al-Mukthab” in 1910 and then the “Al-Nahda Al-Jadida” newspaper. Then he taught in northern Lebanon for a short period, and returned to teach in Muscat. his head. Edward was elected in 1923 as a corresponding member of the Arab Scientific Academy (the Academy of the Arabic Language) in Damascus, and a member of the Higher Council for Knowledge of Latakia in 1928. He devoted a large part of his time to editing articles and researching historical, literary and linguistic research. He was also a tactful lecturer and gave speeches in many scientific and literary clubs and societies. As for his literary production, it varied between poetry, most of which included in his Diwan "The Diwan of Edward Morcos", and translation; He translated a number of novels from French, including: “The Jealousy of Women,” “In the Shadow of Death,” and “Between Awakening and Delirium.” , and “the guarantor of the statement and poetry”, and “al-Gharar”, and others, which in their entirety are concerned with the Arabic language and its sciences, literature and literary criticism. Edward Morcos died in his hometown of Latakia in 1948.
