The Dunwich Horror

First published in 1928, "The Dunwich Horror" is a short story by cult-favorite horror author Howard Phillips Lovecraft. The story is considered to be one of the core stories of "Cthulhu Mythos". While the work was originally published in Weird Tales, it has since been printed in many other formats. "The Dunwich Horror" is set in Dunwich, a fictional town in Massachusetts, among the wild-domed hills high up in the Miskatonic Valley, far northwest of Arkham. "The Dunwich Horror" is the story of the Whateleys family and their connection to the Dunwich horror that occurred in Dunwich in 1928. In the secluded, secluded, and worn-out village of Dunwich, Wilbur Whatley is the obnoxious son of Lavinia Waitley, a disfigured and unstable albino mother, and an unknown father (he is alluded to passing by the old crazy Waitley as "Yog Southoth").

Strange events surround his birth and early development. Wilbur matures at an abnormal rate, reaching manhood within a decade. Locals avoid him and his family, and animals fear and despise him (because of his smell). All the while, his wizard grandfather teaches him some dark rituals and study of magic. Many locals are skeptical after Old Whateley buys more and more cattle, yet his herd never increases, and the cattle in his field mysteriously get seriously open wounds... "The Dunwich Horror" is one of Lovecraft's most tightly constructed stories, largely due to its use of binding elements that provide hidden clues and anticipate developments.
