"Ninth House" is a dark fantasy novel written by Leigh Bardugo. The story follows Galaxy "Alex" Stern, a troubled young woman with the ability to see ghosts. Alex is given a second chance at life when she is recruited to Yale University to join Lethe House, a secret society tasked with monitoring the eight other secret societies on campus, each with its own set of dangerous rituals and practices.
As Alex delves deeper into the world of the secret societies, she discovers that they are not just harmless clubs, but powerful organizations with dark and deadly secrets. With the help of her mentor, the enigmatic and charismatic Darlington, Alex investigates the murder of a young woman that is connected to the societies.
As she uncovers more about the murder and the sinister activities of the societies, Alex realizes that her own past and the ghosts that haunt her are closely linked to the dark world she has entered. She must confront her own demons and use her unique abilities to stop the societies before they cause irreparable harm.
The novel weaves together elements of horror, mystery, and suspense, with a vividly imagined world and complex characters. Bardugo explores themes of power, privilege, trauma, and the corrupting influence of secrets. "Ninth House" is a gripping and intense read that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.
